Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect an abrasion state of a slide member of a mechanical seal without stopping a rotor and without a special detector by providing a colored member on the inside or outside of one slide member of the mechanical seal. CONSTITUTION:A single colored member 10 is buried in the ingerior of a fixed slide member 2. Accordingly, when the abrasion of the slide member 2 causes the colored member 10 buried therein to be exposed and be worn away during operation, minute particles of the colored member 10 get mixed in a leakage fluid, so that the leakage fluid is colored. Thus, the abrasion state of the slide member 2 can be detected by detecting such colored leakage fluid.
