Abstract

1281551 Yarn heater ERNEST SCRAGG & SONS Ltd 11 Dec 1969 [11 Jan 1969] 1761/ 69 Heading D1F [Also in Division H5] A yarn heater for heating a plurality of yarns in a multistation yarn processing machine comprises a plurality of heater tubes 13 through which the yarns 12 pass on one side of a thermally conductive plate 14 and in good thermal contact therewith, and a heating element 15 supplying heat uniformly to the other side of the plate 14. As shown, heating element 15 is sandwiched between two heating plates 14 each of which is in thermal contact with four pairs of heater tubes 13. The heating element 15 comprises a resistance wire or strip 16 embedded in a mat 17 of glass fibre. The plates 14 are aluminium and the tubes 13 are housed in castings 18 bolted flat against the plates 14. The heater has a metal casing 22 packed with glass fibre 23. A temperature sensing probe 26 controls power supplied to the element 15. The tubes 13 may be inclined to the vertical and secured to a plate 14 in the form of a parallelogram. The yarn heater may be incorporated in a fake twist crimping machine (Fig. 3 not shown). To prevent the yarns sticking to the walls of the tubes static electricity is removed from the yarns prior to their entry into the tubes in the manner described in copending applications Nos. 22413/69 and 26159/69. The tubes are maintained throughout their length above the condensation temperature of oily substances in the yarns in the manner described in Specification No. 1275643. [GB1281551A]
