Abstract

A laundry wringing machine comprises a metal roller 18 and, engaging the metal roller 18 and driven thereby, a rubber roller 11 comprising a pneumatic tyre with a periphery of part-circular or other convex cross-section, the portion of the metal roller 18 between its frusto-conical ends being cylindrical. The undeformed diameter of the roller 11 is greater than the effective diameter to reduce slip, when wringing laundry, due to the varying thickness of the laundry across the rolls. Laundry is supplied to the rolls by a conveyor 22,- having a guide which tapers in width in the direction of the conveyor towards the rolls and also perpendicularly away from the conveyor.
