Abstract

A method for winding yarn onto a rotating container 4 wherein a driving element 1 has circumferential bands 2, 3 fitted on the surface thereof, which bands have a high coefficient of friction with the container 4 and are spaced apart by a distance greater than the length of the yarn package to be wound onto the container, the container 4 being driven by frictional contact with said bands 2, 3 during the initial winding of yarn onto the container 4 and is subsequently driven by frictional contact between the yarn package being formed and the driving element 1 in known manner.
