Abstract

The bobbin on which the yarns package is formed in driven by direct contact with a drive roller, and pref. has a larger diameter end flange which is contacted by the drive roller so that during winding of the first few layers of the package the yarn is wound up at a slower speed than the peripheral speed of the drive roller. When the package diameter exceeds that of the flange the drive roller contacts the package and then winding speed is increased to the same as that of drive roller. The first few layers have a density in excess of 0.130 (pref. 0.17-0.20). Textured yarn (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate) is packaged without effecting the texture of the first few layers of the yarn which may result subsequently in uneven dyeing.
