Abstract

1,254,562. Dry soup mix. SPICE & FLAVOUR SERVICES Ltd. 23 Oct., 1969 [29 Oct., 1968], No. 51235/68. Heading A2B. A dry soup mix suitable for use in a vending machine comprises a thickening agent and other ingredients to provide flavour, colour, body and texture wherein the said ingredients are coated with fat which contains an emulsifying agent. The thickening agent may be potato flour, starch, pregelatinised starch or a natural or synthetic gum. The soup may be a tomato or chicken soup. The Ex. discloses a tomato soup mix comprising skimmed milk, potato starch, sugar, salt, monosodium glutamate, tomato powder, onion powder, spices, colour, hardened palm oil and polyoxyethylene sorbitan monostearate. The mix may be prepared by (1) mixing and heating all the ingredients to above the m.p. of the fat and then cooling or (2) mixing and heating the ingredients other than fat and emulsifier to about the m.p. of the fat spraying into the hot mixture the molten fat and emulsifier and cooling.
