Abstract

1,218,508. Barge and pusher vessel. BREIT ENG. Inc. 9 June, 1969 [16 Sept., 1968], No. 29069/69. Heading B7V. An ocean-going pusher tug and barge combination comprises a barge 10 with a stern recess receiving the tug 16, rubbing strakes 24 on either side of the tug engaging a pair of longitudinal slots 22, Fig. 3, in the barge recess to rigidly link the barge and tug. A number of pairs of slots 22 are provided, the pair engaged depending on the relative draughts of the tug and barge. When the tug is engaged in the barge recess, the sides of the recess extend beyond the centre of gravity 17 of the tug. Lines 36 with quick-release means 38 may secure the tug to the barge. The barge is engaged and released by the tug by driving the tug forwards and astern, respectively. [GB1218508A]
