Abstract

1418920 Barge and pusher vessel; coupling craft R A BLUDWORTH 11 Dec 1972 [16 Dec 1971] 57154/72 Headings B7A B7S and B7V In the pusher tug 11 and barge 10 marine combination shown the barge has a pair of opposed, rearwardly extending side wings 19, 20 at the stern 17 defining a notch 18 for receiving the bow 13 of the tug, the notch being open at the top and bottom. Three locking assemblies rigidly but releasably couple the tug to the barge when the tug is received in the notch, each of the locking assemblies providing substantially point interengagement between the two vessels. One locking assembly 28 comprises a structure 28b on one side of the tug interengageable with structure 28a on the adjacent wing of the notch and a second locking assembly 28 comprises a like arrangement on the other wing of the notch. The third locking assembly 27 comprises a structure on the bow of the tug inter-engageable with a structure on the barge located centrally of the notch. All the locking assemblies have a conformation permitting substantially instantaneous engagement or disengagement. The marine combination could also consist of a train of un-powered barges or other cargo carrying craft.
