Abstract

1277301 Boots &c BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd 28 May 1969 [31 May 1968] 26837/69 Heading A3B A pulling over and toe end lasting machine includes a pulling over assembly A, a pair of lasting assemblies B 1 and B 2 , and means for bringing the pulling over assembly A and each of the lasting assemblies B, and B 2 successively into juxtaposition one with the other. The machine also includes a trimming assembly T which can be moved into juxtaposition with each of the lasting assemblies B 1 and B 2 . The pulling over assembly A includes a shoe support 70 and a set of grippers 55 and is mounted on a carriage 60 which can move transversely of the machine on guide rods 58, 59 so that the assembly A can be brought onto juxtaposition with either of the lasting assemblies B 1 and B 2 . Each lasting assembly B 1 and B 2 includes a toe pad 6 1 or 6 2 , a heel rest 46 1 or 46 2 and a pair of wipers 8 1 , 9 1 or 8 2 , 9 2 and can swing about a cross shaft 57 between a pulling over position (B 1 is in this position in the drawings) and a lasting and trimming position (occupied by B 2 as shown). The trimming assembly T includes a rotary wire brush 13 which brushes the lasting margin across the wipers in a radially outward direction. The brush 13 is mounted on a shaft 15 which can rotate in an arm 34 which is pivoted to a shaft 35. The shaft 35 is carried by an extension of a slide plate 28 which is moved lengthwise of the shoe by a piston and cylinder device 32. The brush is guided around the lasting margin by a template 16, the shaft 15 being urged into contact with the template 16 by a piston and cylinder device 36. The shaft 15 is rotated by a piston and cylinder device 41 to maintain the brush 13 so that it operates in a radially outward direction. In a modification (not shown) the trimming device may take the form of a pair of trimming knives. The machine operates as follows:- a shoe assembly is placed in the machine at the pulling over station at which the pulling over assembly A and lasting assembly B 1 are in juxtaposition and is pulled over by the grippers 55. The wipers 8, 9 are then moved to an intermediate position in which they just start to move over the edge of the insole, thus clamping the upper, and the toe pad 6 and heel rest 46 are moved into position. The grippers 55 then release the upper and the lasting assembly B 1 is then moved to its trimming and lasting position where the lasting margin is trimmed by the brush 13 and the wipers complete their wiping operation. During this trimming and wiping operation the second lasting assembly B 2 is moved to its pulling over position and the pulling over assembly A is moved transversely in the machine to be in juxtaposition with it and a second shoe assembly is pulled over. This cycle is repeated, one shoe assembly being pulled over while another assembly is lasted. [GB1277301A]
