Abstract
An aqs. composition is foamed containing (1) a surface active agent derived from a branched oligomer of C2F4 of formula (C2F4)n where n is an integer above 4. The surface active agent is derived from the tetramer, pentamer or hexamer of C2F4, and can contain anionic, cationic, amphoteric or neutral hydrophilic groups. The composition pref. contains a further agent (2) which is not derived from a branched C2F4 oligomer, pref. a protein or modified protein or a perfluoro-n-octanoic or perfluoro-n-octanesulphonic acid, the mole ratio (1):(2) being 1:1 to 100:1 (pref. 5:1 to 20:1). Stable fire-fighting foams for burning fuels, having improved tolerance for benzene, compatible with NaHCO3, having good flowability over the surface of the burning fuel and preventing re-ignition.
