Abstract

1,221,076. Tote boxes. AIRFIX PLASTICS Ltd. and MARKS & SPENCER Ltd. 21 Oct., 1968 [14 June, 1968; 29 Aug., 1968], Nos. 28288/68 and 41253/68. Heading B8P. A tote box is tapered from mouth to base so that it can be nested with identical boxes, and has projections 40 which, when the box is rotated through 180 degrees from the nesting position, engage the pockets 42 of the box below for stacking. To assist interlocking, lugs 46 engage with sockets 45. For nesting, the projections 40 of the inner box project through apertures 53 in the outer box and the pockets 42 of the outer box project through apertures 34 of the inner box. The box may be made by plastics injection moulding and one wall may be formed as a flap 12 which can be bent and held in position by a rod 55. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 8 and 9, not shown), the mouth of the box can have ribs (188) which engage with the slots (190) and ribs (191) engaging slots (189), to permit mouth to mouth stacking, and/or the base of the box can have projections (185) and sockets (184) to permit base to base stacking. Other features include hand holds 70, a label holder ridges 28 for strengthening the box and also serving as feet, and holes 30 to save material. [GB1221076A]
