Heading C2C. 3 - (3 - Hydroxy - indolin - 2<SP>1 </SP> - on - 3<SP>1 </SP> - yl) - 2- aminopropionitriles of the formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> represents an unsubstituted or substituted aliphatic or araliphatic hydrocarbon radical which may also be substituted by a heterocyclic radical, R<SP>2</SP> represents an unsubstituted or substituted aliphatic or araliphatic hydrocarbon radical which may also be substituted by a heterocyclic radical or a monocarbocyclic aryl radical, or R 1 and R 2 together with the adjacent nitrogen atom represent a 5- to 7-membered heterocyclic radical which may contain further hetero atoms as ring members, R 3 represents hydrogen, an unsubstituted or substituted aliphatic or araliphatic hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, a piperidinoalkyl radical or an acyl radical and R 4 to R 7 independently of each other each represent hydrogen, a lower (up to C 8 ) alkyl, haloalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, dialkylaminoalkyl, alkoxy, alkoxyalkoxy, alkylamino, dialkylamino, acylamino, mono- or di-alkyl-carbamoyl, alkoxycarbonyl or acyloxy radicals, a halogen atom, or the hydroxyl, cyano, carbamoyl, carbonyl or nitro group, may be obtained by reacting an isatin of the formula with lactonitrile and with a secondary amine of the formula R 1 R 2 NH. The reaction is suitably carried out employing approximately equimolar amounts of the reactants at a temperature between 0‹ and 50‹ C., optionally in the presence of an inert diluent or solvent.
