Abstract
1,202,635. Polypeptide lotion. LUZIER Inc. 3 Oct., 1968 [3 Nov., 1967], No. 47070/68. Heading A5B. A skin care composition comprises an oilin-water emulsion, containing a water-soluble polypeptide in the aqueous phase, and also containing a stabilising amount of a preservative system comprising methyl-p-hydroxybenzoate, propyl-p-hydroxybenzoate and sodium ethylmercurithiosalicylate. Preferably the constituents of the preservative are in the amounts of 0.08-0.20%, 0.03-0.1% and 0.01 -0.03% by weight of the total composition respectively together with 0.8-2% of a watersoluble polypeptide of molecular weight 1500-5000. 0.15-0.5% of allantoin and 2-3% of squalane may be present, the pH of the composition preferably being 6.5-8.5. An anionic surfactant, e.g. sodium lauryl sulphate, may be present. Emollients, moisturizers and humectants may be present, as may lanolin or acetylated lanolin alcohol. Such polypeptides may conveniently be made by hydrolysis of proteins from animal skins, e.g. from tanned leather.
