Abstract

Sulphur content of organic samples is determined quantitatively by converting the sulphur ions to sulphuric acid. The sample is ignited at 900-1000 deg.C and is then oxidized with a halogen. Excess halogen is removed by elution with oxygen gas and the resulting sulphuric acid is determined quantitatively after washing with a solvent. The equipment consists of a sample holder connected to an oxygen supply and a burning unit,, leading via a distilled water supply to an absorption a pump and a detection cell.
