Abstract

PURPOSE: To readily, rapidly and effectively analyze a slight amount of NH3 state N in water by making use of the evolution of N2 through reaction of NH4 + and ClO-.
CONSTITUTION: Carrier gas, e.g., He, of a cylinder 1 is divided to two ways, one entering the separation column 23 on the reference side of a gas chromatograph GC through a regulator 3 and the other entering a reaction tube 7 through a regulator 4. An aqueous solution of (salts-contained) hypochlorite and sample solution are admitted onto the glass filter 8 of the tube 7 from an automatic doser 13 via reaction liquid inlet 12. The N2 formed by the reaction liquid 9 is expelled by He and is introduced into a dehumidifying tube 15. The volatile organic materials in the gas are oxidized to CO2 in the oxidizing tube 17 being heated by an electric furnace 18 and are removed by an acid gas removing tube 20. Next, the gas is introduced into the separating column 22 of GC provided with a heat conductivity type detector 24 and the signal of the detector 24 is recorded in a recorder 26. The reaction ended solution or washing solution is extracted through capillary 10 and cock 11.
