Abstract

999,873. Wells &c. FMC CORPORATION. June 24, 1964 [July 9, 1963], No. 26030/64. Heading E1F. A well pipe hanging mechanism comprises a body 14 having a passage 38 therethrough, a hanger 10 contractable to engage a pipe 210 in the passageway, and a sleeve 16 movable from a hanger protecting position (Fig. 2) to a position displaced from the hanger (Fig. 3). The body is a sub-aqueous wellhead, the hanger comprises segments 12 each having a seal 142 and a slip 160, and the sleeve and hanger are moved by fluid pressure. Fluid supplied by a duct 78 raises the sleeve to the position shown in Fig. 3, the fluid then passing through a groove 82 to move an annular piston 115 to the position shown in Fig. 3 to press the segments into engagement with the pipe. The pipe is finally hung by its weight shearing pins 166 and moving the slips downwardly. The segments are retracted by supplying fluid to a duct 76 to raise the piston which is connected by bolts 182 to the segments.
