Abstract
999,773. Electric incandescent lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 19, 1961 [Sept. 22, 1960], No. 33498/61. Heading H1F. In a gas-filled lamp comprising a tungsten filament 1 extending between lead-in wires 5 sealed in the bulb wall and which contains a small quantity of iodine, the connection and mechanical support of the ends of the filament to the lead-in wires is effected by a strip-like element 6 having a thermal conductivity such that in operation the ends of the filament are at a temperature of at least 900‹ C. and preferably at least 1200‹ C., each strip, at least on its exposed surfaces, consisting of a metal or alloy of which the amount in gram-atoms reacting per unit time with atomic iodine over the temperature range 300-1200‹ C. is at most one-fourth that of tungsten. Suitable material for the strips 6 or for coating their surfaces are metals of the platinum group and alloys thereof.
