999,553. Internal-shoe-drum brakes. J. TROUIN. March 30, 1962, No. 12685/65. Divided out of 999,552. Heading F2E. [Also in Division B8] In safety apparatus for arresting the fall of a person from a building &c. by means of a rope 2, Fig. 1, payed out from a spring drum 4, the rotation of the drum 4 is braked by a centrifugal brake within a fixed brake drum 56 and also by a manually-actuated brake within a rotatable brake drum 52. The centrifugal brake unit comprises shoes 50, Fig. 2, pivoted to radial arms 48 which are coupled to the rope drum 4 through a freewheel (not shown) and step-up gears 43-46. The brake drum 52 of the manually actuated brake is attached to the radial arms 48 for rotation therewith. Fixed shoes (not shown) are cam-actuated by a lever 55.
