Abstract

The invention provides a process for dyeing cellulosic material with reactive dyes in which a solution of alkali and alkali metal borohydride is applied to the material which is then partially dried, the reactive dye being applied from aqueous solutions in the next stage. Heating may be used to fix the dyeing. The drying is preferably carried out to leave 2-10% of moisture, hot air above 212 DEG F. preferably being used. The alkali used is preferably 0.1-2% by weight, the alkali metal borohydride used is preferably 1/15 to 1/2 the weight of alkali used. Mixtures of reactive dyes are also used. Sodium and potassium borohydrides are preferably used.
