Abstract
998,276. Electrically - tripped switches. SQUARE D CO. Aug. 30, 1961 [Dec. 22, 1960], No. 31177/61. Heading H2B. A circuit-breaker has a tripping mechanism, including two levers pivoted on a common movable member and biased so that when one of the levers is released by the overload responsive assembly the common member is moved by the biasing means to allow the circuitbreaker contacts to open. As shown, the common member is a pin 65 movable in slots in casing parts and carrying a lever 61 having a boss 61a on which the lever 60 is mounted. A leaf spring 67 engages a limb 62 of the lever 61 so that a projection 64 on the other limb 63 of the lever 61 is urged against and retained by a toothed wheel 25 of a " solder pot " overload assembly (not shown). A spring 68 urges lever 60 clockwise (Fig. 3) about the pin 65 so that its leg 58 engages a contact spring 45 to urge it into engagement with a fixed contact 51. When the solder melts to allow rotation of the wheel 25 and upward movement of the lever 61 the movement of the pin 65 causes the lever 60 to rotate about a casing projection 76 to allow the moving contact spring to disengage contact 51 and engage a contact 50. After such tripping action (Fig. 6, not shown), the circuitbreaker can be reclosed by depression and release of an actuator 33 which when moved downwards engages the end 74 of the line 59 of the lever 60 to move the levers 60, 61 downward. When the actuator 33 is released for return movement due to its biasing spring 71 the projection 64 engages the wheel 25 to stop the upward movement of the levers 60, 61 and the spring 68 turns the lever 60 to the position shown to close contacts 45, 51.
