Abstract
998,229. Bayonet fastenings. HOLOPHANE Ltd. June 17, 1963 [Feb. 21, 1963], No. 24118/63. Heading E2B. [Also in Division F4] In a light fitting consisting of a base part 1 and an outer part 2, the latter at least being transparent, united by a peripheral drum 3, lugs 17 and spring tongues 15 are provided on the drum, the outer part of which has notches 20 in its periphery through which the lugs and spring tongues can pass and the base part of which has notches 12 in its outer rim giving passage only to the lugs 17, assembly being effected by passing the lugs and spring tongues through the notches in the outer part, turning this to bring the spring tongues out of line with the notches, passing the lugs through the notches in the base part and turning to bring the lugs out of register with the notches, the spring tongues bearing elastically on the outer face of the base part and the rear of the outer part. The base part 1 is secured to a wall or ceiling by screws 4 passing through cup washers 5 which enter holes in the base part and spring washers 6 bearing on the inside surface of the base. The outer part 2 which may be in the form of a stepped lens nests on turned-over rims 3a of the drum 3 against which it is pressed by the springs 15 when the fitting has been assembled. Double ramp bosses 21, 22 are arranged on opposite sides of the notches in the part 2 to prevent accidental disconnection of the part 2 from the drum 3. Similarly, a double ramp boss 13 and a stop 14, Fig. 5, are arranged on opposite sides of the notches in the base part 1 to prevent accidental separation of the drum from the base part and to prevent rotation of the drum relative to the base part in the wrong direction. The lugs and springs may be combined in a unit having a base 16, Fig. 7, for soldering to the drum, a lug 17, an angle piece 15a supporting a pair of spring tongues 15 and a stop 18 projecting from the edge of the base 16 between the tongues 15 to limit the extent to which they can be flexed inwards.
