Abstract

Fibrous cellulosic boards free of synthetic resinous binder are made from a 3-30% slurry of disintegrated fibre of a composition within the range 5-40% of fibre diameter up to 4m and/or 40/90% of length 0.5-5 mm. and diameter 50-200 m with 0-40% of length 3-40 mm. and diameter 0.2-3 mm. The raw material is conveyed from container 1 through washing plant 2, coarse fibrizer 3 and fine fibrizer 4 to mixer 5 and deposited, via storage tanks if necessary, from container 7 into frames 16a, 16b, containing drainage plates 15, which are conveyed in rotation by a travelling hoist 17 from picking up the empty plates 15 at stack 8a to pressing at 9, for removal of water (which may be pump assisted), and deposition of the filled plates at stack 8b from whence, clamped under pressure, the stack is passed through a drying plant 11 at 160 DEG to 280 DEG C., e.g. heated by hot air circulation, dielectric heating, radiant heating or an electrically, steam or hot water heated press. Alternately, the plates 15 may be designed as heating plates. Ultrasonic drying may also be employed. After drying to a moisture content of 3%, the pressed cakes at 12 are restored to 8% to 10% humidity followed by unloading at 13 and sawing at 14.
