Abstract
997,575. Cathode-ray tubes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Sept. 27, 1962 [Sept. 29, 1961], No. 36729/62. Heading H1D. In a flat cathode-ray tube the horizontal scanning system includes a first dynamic deflection stage 56, Fig. 9, which as shown, is an electromagnet with yoke 57, polepieces 59 and an energization coil 61, but which may comprise electrostatic deflection plates, and a second static deflection stage comprising a pair of polepieces 83 disposed on either side of the envelope and so shaped that the point of minimum beam cross-section 251 remains on a substantially horizontal line 252. The spacing between the polepieces 83 may vary along their lengths. The second stage magnet may be a permanent or electromagnet and its strength may be varied. The vertical scanning system comprises an array of conductors 116, 118, Fig. 4, interconnected by strip resistors 117, 121 and a conductive layer 126 on the phosphor screen 50. A conductive coating on the inside of the envelope in the vicinity of the scanning magnet 56, Fig. 9, is provided with window openings interconnected by slits to prevent the circulation of eddy currents. High resistance coatings may be provided in the window openings to prevent the building up of stray electrical charges. Specification 997,576 is referred to.
