Abstract

997,085. Hydromechanical variable speed gear. MORGAN DEVELOPMENT LABORATORIES Inc. March 7, 1963, No. 9083/63. Heading F2D. In a continuously variable hydromechanical gear of the type wherein one side wheel 19 of a bevel planet train 13 is fast with an input shaft 14 which also drives a variable displacement pump P in fluid circuit with a constant displacement motor M geared to the other side wheel 20 and the side wheels 19, 20 mesh planets on a driven carrier 17, the displacement and direction of fluid flow from the pump P are varied to produce rotation of the side wheel 20 which is continuously variable between a predetermined speed in one direction and a second predetermined speed in the other direction. The predetermined speeds are equal and opposite and equal to the input speed, thus producing a final driven speed of the carrier 17 which varies between zero and a direct drive. A countershaft reverse gear 24 may be provided between the carrier 17 and output shaft 11. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the input shaft is driven from the prime mover at an overdrive ratio. The pump and motor assembly is of the piston and cylinder type.
