Abstract
996,956. Feeding bottles. MEAD JOHNSON & CO. March 26, 1962 [April 3, 1961], No. 11395/62. Heading A5X. [Also in Division B8] Nursing apparatus comprises a feeding bottle having an expandable portion and a nipple and a liquid supply with connector means for detachable connection to the bottle for filling it by gravity flow. A feeding bottle 20 of flexible synthetic plastic material comprises an upper part-spherical portion 21 joined to a lower, more flexible, part-spherical portion 22 by a peripheral seam 23, the lower portion being collapsed into the upper portion when the bottle is empty. A nipple is secured in the top portion of the bottle and a nipple cover 25 is sealed to the bottle by a paper annulus. The nipple opening is in the form of erased cuts, one cut being longer than the other. An opening in the cover registers with the nipple opening. The bottles are filled from cans 33, 34, 35 and are placed in filling positions in the base 29 of a stand, the cans being placed on a shelf 31 above the bottles. The top of each can is pierced by an opening tool (see Division B8) and an outlet fitting 61 is disposed in the opening produced in each can. A tube 62 extending through each outlet fitting to the bottom of a can is connected to a syphon tube 63 having a cannula 65 at the other end. The cannula is passed through the openings in the nipple and its cover and a tab 77 on the lower portion of the bottle is pulled to initiate filling. Clamps 45 may be applied to the syphon tubes. In a modification, a funnel (Fig. 11 and 12, not shown) having an opening fitted with a cannula is placed over the bottle so that the cannula pierces the nipple and cover and a plug closing the cannula is withdrawn by a rod to permit liquid to flow into the bottle from the funnel. Specification 961,855 is referred to.
