Abstract

Shaped articles are made by shaping at elevated temperatures a uniform mixture of a vinyl chloride polymer and one or more monoethylenic monomers which are compatible with the polymer, subjecting the mixture to a dose of high energy ionizing radiation which is insufficient to polymerize the monomer completely and then subjecting the mixture to heat treatment. The examples describe homogenizing mixtures of polyvinyl chloride and styrene which may contain, additionally, methyl methacrylate, moulding the mixtures, irradiating them with X-rays, and then subjecting them to heat treatment at temperatures between 50 DEG and 95 DEG C.
