Abstract

995,991. Slicing machines. A. PAUL. Feb. 17, 1964 [Feb. 20, 1963], No. 6559/64. Heading A4C. In a machine for slicing bread, sausage, cheese &c. the slicing disc 15 (Fig. 1), mounted in or on a housing 10 and having a peripheral cutting edge, is drivingly interconnected with an electric motor 20 mounted in the housing 10 by a flexible shaft 21. The shaft 21 carries a worm 22 mounted in bearings to drive a worm wheel 16 splined to the hub 17 of the cutter 15. A chamber 19 beneath the cutter 15 receives, through a shoot 44, slices cut from a loaf &c. supported on a worktable 24, the latter being vertically adjustable to vary the slice thickness S. A pair of sliders 25 having handles 33 are housed in the hollow side walls 13 of the machine housing and are interconnected by a stirrup 30, 31 for simultaneous movement, whereby movement of the sliders 25 in the direction y causes lugs 27 on the worktable 24 to ride up inclined slots 26 in the sliders 25 at the same time being guided in vertical slots 23 in the housing walls 13 to effect vertical adjustment of the worktable 24. Means are provided to lock the worktable 24 in its adjusted position and the arrangement is such that by means of a lug 46 the motor 20 is rendered inoperative when the slice thickness S is set to zero. A shredding attachment (Fig. 5) comprises a lower housing 48 releasably attached to the sliciing machine above the slicing disc 15 and an upper housing 49 carrying a hopper 50 beneath the outlet of which is mounted a rotary shredder 56 driven through a shaft 55 splined to the hub 17 of the cutter 15. The shredder 56 is urged upwardly into contact with a washer 65 to maintain the spring a between the shredder 56 and the lower edge 66 of the hopper 50 by means of a spring urged pin 64 with a conical necked portion 61 having a camming action on pin 54 mounted in bearings 53 and engaged within the shaft 55 to urge the pin 54 and shredder 56 upwardly.
