Abstract

969,431. Cutting apparatus. C. P. MEEK. Feb. 1, 1963, No. 4194/63. Heading B4B. A cutting device 1, for preparing a skin section for grafting, comprises a supporting member 5 having mounted on it a lamina 63 of e.g. cork, a lid 41 overlying the lamina 63 and having formed in it ribs 51 defining spaced longitudinal slots, and a cutter assembly 97 mounted above the mounting block for movement in the direction of and extending through the slots for contact with material clamped by the ribs between the lid and lamina 63. The lid 41 is hingedly connected at 43 to the supporting member. In operation, a section of a split width skin graft 65 is positioned on the lamina 63, and the lid 41 is closed and locked. The cutter blade frame 67 is moved by its handle 79 along the guide channels 77 across the supporting member 5 so that the rotating blades 97, which are protected by L-shaped guard members 109 and driven via a connector 105 and flexible connection 107, cut the central area of the skin 65 into strips. The frame 67 is then withdrawn and the lamina 63 turned through 90 degrees and a further cutting movement is made so that the skin is cut into a number of minute cubes which are removed and put into a liquid suspension.
