995,653. Friction change speed and reverse gearing; epicyclic gearing cam gearing; convertirig rotary to oscillating motion. F.M.M.B. SALOMON. May 17, 1962 [May 17, 1961], No. 19131/62. Headings F2D, F2K and F2Q. Friction reversing gearing comprises two bevel rollers rigid with a driving shaft moved axially to selectively engage a bevel driven wheel. A motor shaft 1 drives a driving shaft 16 through a claw coupling 12, 13 allowing axial movement of the shaft 16 which carries rigid therewith the friction rollers 19a, 196 engageable with a conical disc 26 on a driven shaft 27 of a washing machine. A stepped planet gear 7 is rotated by the motor shaft 1 to engage a fixed run 8 and driven run 9 on a cam 10. The cam 10 is rotated at slow speed and reciprocates a shaft 34, through cam follower 33, which, through springs 38a, 38b, reciprocates a finger 37 engaging a grooved ring 14 rigid with the driving shaft 16, producing alternate engagement of the forward and reverse rollers 19a, 196. Rotation of a bevel gear 51, through bevel gear 49 rotationally connected to the shaft 34, disengages the follower 33 from the cam 10 and retains the follower in a slot 54 such that the rollers 19a, 196 are both held clear of the disc 26. Rotation of the bevel gear 49 engages a projection 48 thereon with a face cam 47 to move a sleeve 44 axially to engage a third roller 20, keyed to the driving shaft, to provide high speed rotation of the driven shaft 27.
