Abstract

995,589. Hose couplings. PNEUMATIC COMPONENTS Ltd. May 19, 1964 [July 6, 1963], No. 26857/63. Heading F2G. In a spigot and socket coupling for hoses and of the type in which a number of radially movable locking members 26 in the socket 2 engage in an externally circumferential groove 6 in the spigot 1 and are held by a sleeve 11 slidable axially on the socket, the sleeve being spring-urged towards a position in which outward radial movement of the locking members is prevented, the sleeve has a tapered counterbore 15 diverging in the direction in which the sleeve is spring-urged, and there is a second tapered counterbore 16 diverging in the opposire direction in a collar 17 secured or slidable on the socket. The counterbores together form an annular space into which the locking members can move radially outwards when the sleeve is moved, against the spring-urge, away from the collar. The members 26 may be of T-section and work in slots 25, one end of the members engage in an undercut 32. When the shoulder 5 of the spigot 1 engages the peripheries 29 of the members 26 the latter are rocked about the ends 30 thereof to ride over the shoulder and engage in the groove 6 when the sleeve 11 is moved by the spring 36 towards the collar 17; a valve 22 is unseated by the apertured nose 8 of the spigot.
