Abstract

995,517. Wells &c. NATIONAL PETROLEUM CORPORATION Ltd. Dec. 11, 1963, No. 48917/63. Heading E1F. A device for forming a duct through the wall of casing 14 comprises a body 20 adapted to be fixed in the wall, a duct-forming bellows 25 fixed at one end to the body, and a destructable closure 27 fixed to the other end of the body to permit fluid pressure to extend the bellows. A number of devices each having a closure 30 are screwed into the casing which is then lowered into the well 10. Cement 15 followed by a plug 17 is pumped into the well to surround the lower part of the casing. The plug is followed by fluid, preferably acid to remove the closures 30 either by pressure applied to the interior of the casing or chemical action, or by a combination of pressure and chemical action. Pressure is applied to the interior of the casing to extend the devices, and when the cement has set the closures 27 are removed by chemical action to connect the interior of the casing to the oil bearing strata 12.
