Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0995366/C2/1> wherein R1 is a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl, alkoxy, trifluoromethyl, alkylthio, alkylsulphonyl, alkanoyl, hydroxy or aralkoxy group, R2 and R3 are hydrogen atoms or alkyl, alkenyl, propargyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl groups or, in combination with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, a pyrrolidino, alkylpyrrolidino, piperidino, alkylpiperidino, hexamethyleneimino, morpholino, alkylmorpholino, alkylpiperazino, hydroxyalkylpiperazino or alkanoyloxyalkylpiperazino group, Y is oxygen or sulphur, n is 2, 3 or 4, and A and B are hydrogen atoms or alkyl groups, the alkyl groups or moieties alone having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, non-toxic and addition salts thereof, and their preparation by (a) reacting an amine of formula R2R3NCnH2nX, wherein X is a halogen atom or an arylsulphonyloxy group, with a compound of formula <FORM:0995366/C2/2> and, if desired, connecting an alkoxy or aralkoxy group to a hydroxy group, oxidizing an alkylthio group to an alkylsulphonyl group or when Y is oxygen, replacing it by sulphur by treatment with phosphorus pentasulphide; (b) cyclizing one of the compounds of formulae <FORM:0995366/C2/3> (c) reacting a compound of formula <FORM:0995366/C2/4> with ethyl chloroformate, phosgene or ethyl carbonate; or (d) reacting an amine R2R3NH with a compound of formula <FORM:0995366/C2/5> where X is a halogen atom or an arylsulphonyl group. The compounds of the invention have tranquillizing properties and may be used in pharmaceutical compositions in combination with suitable carries in forms suitable for oral administration, e.g. as tablets, capsules or pills.
