Abstract

994,641. Casting processes. HOWE SOUND CO. Oct. 31, 1961 [April 7, 1961], No. 38925/61. Heading B3F. A ceramic shell mould, made by coating a disposable pattern with dip and stucco coats is surrounded in part at least during solidification of the casting by carbon or a mixture of C and a refractory preferably in particulate form. The process is stated to reduce decarbonization and pitting of the casting. The mould may be surrounded before or after pouring and may be at the same time subjected to a non-oxidizing or reducing gas such as argon, nitrogen and carbonaceous gases.
