Abstract
Anionic surface-active foaming agents are prepared as follows: (a) lauryl alcohol (1 mol.) is condensed with ethylene oxide (2 mols.), the condensate is sulphated with chlorosulphonic acid (0.95 mol.) and the product is neutralized with caustic soda; (b) lauryl alcohol is esterified with excess of phosphoric acid and phosphoric anhydride and the product is neutralized with monoethanolamine; (c) tridecyl alcohol (0.5 mol.) is condensed with ethylene oxide (1.5 mols.), the condensate is sulphated with chlorosulphonic acid (0.48 mol.) and the product is neutralized with monoethanolamine; (d) decyl alcohol (0.5 mol.) is condensed with a -propylene oxide (1.5 mols.), the condensate is sulphated as in (c) and the product is neutralized with caustic soda; (e) lauryl alcohol (0.5 mol.) is condensed with ethylene oxide (0.75 mol.), the condensate is sulphated with sulphuric acid (0.9 mol.) and the product is neutralized with sodium carbonate; (f) lauric acid monopropanolamide is sulphated with sulphuric acid or oleum of low SO3 content and the product is neutralized with sodium carbonate. Foam stabilizers are prepared by condensing aliphatic alcohols, containing at least 8 carbon atoms in the molecule, with up to 3 molecular proportions of an alkylene oxide.ALSO:A highly breakdown-resistant foaming composition is constituted by an anionic surface-active foaming ester of the general formula R1-F-(OA)n-X-C and a foam stabilizer of the general formula R2-F-(OA)mH, in which formulae R1 and R2 represent aliphatic, aromatic or alkylaromatic hydrocarbon radicals of at least 8 carbon atoms, with at least 40% by weight of the anionic surface active agent being made of up a compound in which R1 is aliphatic, F represents the residue of an active hydrogen end function (i.e. an alcoholic, phenolic, carboxyl, amino or amido group, the stabilizing agent containing at least 40% by weight of a compound in which F is the residue of an alcohol), (OA) represents an oxyalkylene radical, n is 1-10, m is 0-3, x represents an inorganic (e.g. sulphuric or phosphoric) acid residue, and C represents a cation (preferably potassium or ammonium) neutralizing said residue, the foaming composition containing not more than 10% of free alkylolamide in cases where the anionic surface active agent is formed from an alkylolamide.
