Abstract

994,368. Automatic circuit-breakers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Sept. 26, 1961 [Oct. 12, 1960], No. 34418/61. Heading H2B. In an electromagnetic tripping device of an oil circuit-breaker a pivoted armature is provided with a cam follower which is biased against a cam to determine the inoperative position of the armature and the cam is adjustable towards and away from the armature pivot in a direction which is parallel to the face of the cam follower in a predetermined position thereof, so as to alter the range of adjustment provided by the cam without altering the setting at the predetermined position. As shown, the cam 32 is fixed on a threaded shaft 36 screwed into a nut 34 accessible from outside the casing 14. In the position shown in Fig. 4, the cam follower face 25 of the armature 24 is parallel to the axis of the shaft 33 so that when the nut 34 is turned whilst the shaft 33 is held against rotation the cam is moved up or down without moving the armature. A slot 36 in the end of the shaft 33 can receive a screw-driver to hold it against rotation and also indicates the position of the cam. A cap 38 is inserted in the nut 34 when the tripping range has been set. The armature assembly 34 co-operates with a trip-bar 19 which normally retains a release lever 8 which is released when the armature is attracted to a U-shaped core 22 secured about a conductor 17 in the casing 14. The armature biasing spring 27 is adjustable by means of a screw 30 and lever 28 pivoted on a knife edge in casing aperture 29.
