993,833. High speed printers. POTTER INSTRUMENT CO. Inc. Feb. 26, 1964 [March 18, 1963], No. 7936/64. Heading B6F. Hammer impression arrangements.-A printing hammer module for a highspeed printer having a typecarrier drum 44, Fig. 1, comprises a frame 10, which includes side plates 12, 14, Fig. 3, and a mounting plate 16 to support two bearing shafts 18 and 20 in a spaced, parallel relationship. The module comprises four hammers 26, 28, 30, 32 which are mounted in pairs on the said shafts, the arrangement being designed to provide a greater bearing area for each of the hammers. Each hammer, e.g. hammer 26, is mounted on a sleeve 50 pressed on to a bearing 48, which extends the entire length between the side plate 12 and mounting plate 16 and is positioned accurately by a shim 52. The hammers 26, 30 are straight extending from the printing head 32<SP>1</SP> to the armature 34. However, to permit hammers 26, 28 and 30, 32 to be mounted within the spaces defined by the mounting plate 16 and the side plates 12, 14 the hammers 28, 32 have their armatures formed at an angle identified by the numeral 54. The hammers are pivoted for impression by electromagnets such as 36, 58 against a restoring bias of a spring 40 mounted on the frame 10 by a fixture 42. A stop 46 is provided to define the rest position of the hammer head 32<SP>1</SP> and is adjustable to permit alteration of the distance which the head must travel.
