Abstract

A compression refrigeration lubricating composition comprises a halogenated hydrocarbon refrigerant, a major proportion of a lubricating oil and 0.01% to 1.0% of a metal salt or soap. Refrigerants mentioned are methyl and methylene chloride and fluorocarbons, whilst metal naphthenates and octoates are the preferred metal compounds particularly those of zinc, cadmium and nickel, though other metal radicals including sodium, calcium and aluminium are listed. Optional ingredients are cresols, amines, dithiophosphates, tricresylphosphate and polybutenes.
