Abstract

993,256. Threshing machines. MASSEY-FERGUSON SERVICES N.V. March 7, 1962 [March 13, 1961], No. 8868/62. Heading A1F. A threshing cylinder 14 comprises a supporting drum 54 for mounting a cylindrical surface 80 composed of a resilient material such as rubber which co-operates with a concave 20 for threshing crop which is first passed by an elevator 12 through a stripper-beater 16. The cylindrical surface 80 has annular supports at either end which are secured to the supporting drum 54 by retaining members held by screws 66, 72 and it is also supported by radial portions 90 which bear on the drum 54. The surface 80 is reinforced by a fabric surface 82, by wire rings 96 which are concentric with the surface and by fabric bonds 94 which undulate in passing through the radial portions. A zig-zag tread is provided on the surface 80. A member 74 is incorporated in one end wall of the drum 54 and communicates with a passage 76 whereby compressed air or liquid can be supplied to the interior of the surface 80 to act as further supporting means. In an embodiment the supporting drum and cylindrical surface are disposed as shown in Fig. 5, the radial portions being continuous but having small openings 100 for the passage of fluid. In a further embodiment the radial portions are formed as a hollow cylinder of porous rubber.
