Abstract

993,007. Electrostatic precipitators. METALLGESELLSCHAFT A.G. March 31, 1964 [July 17, 1963], No. 13213/64. Heading B2J. A horizontal electrostatic dust collector has a diffuser-shaped gas intake formed of a foursided truncated pyramid containing perforated baffle-plates 4, 4<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>11</SP> for evenly distributing the gas, there being no dust collecting bin under the intake and the vertical and horizontal divergence angles α and # of the intake being arranged between 105 and 115 degrees and between 40 and 110 degrees respectively. The baffle-plates 4, 4<SP>1</SP> have perforations of different size from those of the baffle-plate 4<SP>11</SP> so that a progressive throttling effect is provided on the gas as it flows into the precipitator 3. Vertically-extending divergency plates 9 are provided between the baffle-plates 4, 4<SP>1</SP> both at the top and bottom of the intake. Dust retained by the baffle-plates drops off and slides down the sloping bottom of the intake into bins 5 provided under the precipitator 3 ; openings 6 below the baffle-plate 4 and between anglesupports 7 allow passage of the dust.
