Abstract

992,900. Quick disconnect pipe coupling. HANSEN MANUFACTURING CO. Jan. 17, 1964, No. 2138/64. Heading F2G. A quick disconnect coupling 10 comprises spigot 12 and socket parts 11, a valve in one part biased towards a closed position, means in the other part holding the valve open on connection of the parts and material adapted to fuse at a predetermined temperature and operative to release the valve for closing movement while said parts remain in connected relationship. As shown in Fig. 1, a spring-loaded valve 23 seals with a shoulder portion 25 of the socket and carries a projecting portion 32 engaging with a bridge 30 in the spigot to open the valve on connection of the parts. The bridge is secured to a nose member 31 in the form of a sleeve 42 secured to the inner surface of the spigot by a band of solder 44 extending around the sleeve and substantially the length of the sleeve. Thus when the solder is heated, it fuses and the nose member 31 slides into the spigot to close the valve 23. In a second embodiment the nose member is replaced by a spider, held between a shoulder in the spigot and a lock-ring 67 and a pin 62 serving to open the valve on connection of the parts is held by solder 69 in a cylindrical opening in the spider.
