Abstract

992,094. Planimeters. M. BABEL. Aug. 8, 1963 [Aug. 8, 1962], No. 31378/63. Heading G1X. A planimeter comprises two mutually parallel shafts 1, 2 interconnected by gears 5, 6, the shaft 1 carrying a measuring wheel 3, and the shaft a counting wheel 4, an arrangement for returning both wheels to their zero position including two zero positioning surfaces 7, 8 arranged obliquely to each shaft 1, 2, and a control member 9 slidable parallel to the shafts and operating in co-operation with the surfaces 7, 8, and a slip clutch provided between the wheels 3, 4. The shafts 1, 2 are mounted in conical bearings, and the member 9 comprises a slidable grip 9a and two projections 9b, 9c which act on the surfaces 7, 8 to zero the wheels 3, 4. The slip clutch is formed by a compression spring (not shown) between the wheel 4 and the gear 6 which is mounted loosely thereon. During measurement the wheel 3 is revolved over the surface to be measured and thereafter the wheels 3, 4 are returned to zero by operation of the member 9 the slip clutch allowing relative rotation between the two wheels.
