Abstract
991,967. Piles. J. R. BAITTINGER, and J. J. DOUGHERTY. March 18, 1964, No. 11526/64. Heading E1H. In a composite pile comprising a lower wooden section 10, an upper section constituted by a metal tubular shell 12, a concrete filling 64, a metal cage 40 embedded in the concrete, a metal fixture 14 between the wooden section and the concrete including a top circular plate 18, a bottom ring 20 and elongated arms 16 connecting the plate and ring, the top ends 24 of the arms being bent over and welded to the plate and the bottom ends being bent as at 26, 28, 30 to terminate in flanges 34, the bottom ring 20 provides a support for the cage 40 and the top plate 18 has a central hole through which a nail 62 extends into the wooden section for fastening the fixture 14, to the wooden section. Rings 48 of flexible material secured to the ring 20 by bolts and nuts 56, 58 provide a seal round the wooden section 10.
