Abstract
991,721. Freight carrying aircraft. A.T.S. CO. Ltd. May 25, 1961 [May 26, 1960], No. 18607/60. Heading B7W. A freighter aircraft, in combination with a plurality of removable passenger-seating units each comprising a pallet bearing a number of seats, is so constructed that the pallets can be run in over the floor of the freight compartment of the aircraft on rollers and disposed in positions therein at which the seats are appropriately placed for passenger-carrying with the pallets constituting false floor sections under the seats, the seating units also being provided with individual side wall panels on the pallets that meet when the units are in position to form a continuous wall surface, and the combination including means for releasably anchoring the pallets in their positions in the aircraft. The aircraft fuselage comprises a flat floor 10 carrying longitudinal roller conveyers 11 normally supporting two rows of freight-bearing pallets, one on each side of a central gangway 13. Channel-section guide rails 12 are mounted alongside the outer conveyers to engage with ledges formed on the lateral edges of each seat-carrying pallet 14, upon which are mounted three side-by-side seats 17. Stops 21 or similar means prevent fore-and-aft movement of the pallets. Each pallet carries a false wall 25 suitably trimmed and this in turn may carry a half-ceiling panel (not shown) also trimmed. This roof panel may be hinged to facilitate loading and to protect the seats and the floor panels may be carpeted. Cut-outs 26 in the wall panels may be provided to align with the windows 27 in the aircraft fuselage and similar openings may be provided in the roof panels to align with lights 30. The floor 13 may be brought up to the level of the pallets by a false floor (not shown).
