Abstract

715,114. Seating arrangements in aircraft. AIRWORK, Ltd. Dec. 5, 1951 [Dec. 29, 1950], No. 31622/50. Class 4 A passenger carrying aircraft has two gangways extending lengthwise of the fuselage between pairs of seats arranged side by side along the longitudinal axis of the fuselage and single seats along each side of the fuselage. Oppositely facing seats are convertible into bunks, and additional upper bunks 5 (Fig. 3) are provided. During the day these are stowed as shown in Fig. 4 and for night travel they are swung about hinges 6 to the position shown in Fig. 5, being supported by frames constituted by the seat backs, straps 8 Fig. 6 (not shown) depending from the fuselage roof, and pillars 9, on which are also slidable tables 10. Further bunks 4 and 4a are provided to complement the sleeping capacity to the seating capacity. The seat cushions 11 are 'employed as bunk mattresses. and pillows may be concealed in the seat backs. The arms of the seats are removable for greater comfort at night.
