Abstract
Bisphenols of formula <FORM:0991307/C2/1> are produced by condensing in a basic alcoholic solution the corresponding precursors (HO)(R1)2C6H2CHOHR and (HO)(R1)2C6H3, passing the reaction mixture to a crystallization zone at a temperature at which the bisphenol remains in solution, reducing the temperature to crystallize the bisphenol, separating the latter and recycling to the reaction zone. In the formulae, R is H or alkyl and R1 is C1-8-alkyl, at least one R1\h on each phenyl ring being branched on its alpha-carbon atom.
