In a chain coupling of the kind comprising two generally U-shaped half-links 11 united by a cross-pin or pins 15, the limbs of each U interdigitate with these of the other and the pins 15 do not project outside the limbs. In Fig. 3 there is a single pin 15, a clearance fit in the holes 12a, 13a, 14a in the limbs of the half-links and it is retained by a split collar 16. Alternatively the pin or pins may be a drive fit in one or more of these holes or in a removable split liner insertable in such holes. In the case where two pins are used their axes may be transverse to the common plane of the two U's.
