[Also in Division H2] In a dry shaver, having a cutter moved over the inner surface of a face-contacting foil or plate by an electric motor fed by a battery in a chamber in the shaver casing, the speed of the motor and hence, the speed of operation of the cutting parts is varied by varying the voltage supplied to the motor by switch means whereby all of the cells of the battery are connected in series or the cells are divided in parallely-connected groups, the cells in each group being connected in series with each other, depending on the position occupied by a manually operated selector member of the switch. A cutting head 18 which may be of the kind disclosed in Specification 984,791 forms with the motor 14, a unit axially slidable by pressure against the skin against the action of a spring 19 into a chamber in the upper casing part 11 to close switch contacts 29, 30 to operate the motor as disclosed in Specification 991,166. Battery cells ABCD are mounted in a box 45 incorporating a cradle 47 in the lower part 10 of the casing. Output conductors 48, 49 co-operate with contacts 50, 51 of selector switch and extend along grooves in the base and sides of the easing to connect with conductor strips 28, 41 to the motor and connectors 1, 8 which are in contact with the positive pole of cell A and the negative pole of cell D. When the cells are required in series for high-speed operation, connection is made from terminal 1, through cell A, terminal 2, conductor 52, terminal 3, cell B, terminal 4, input conductor 53, switch contacts 54, 55 by a bridging member, input conductor 56, terminal 5, cell C, terminal 6, conductor 57, terminals 7, 8 to conductor 48. When a seriesparallel arrangement is required for slower, closer shaving the connection between contacts 54, 55 is broken and contacts 50, 54 connected to each other by movement of the selector switch member 58 which has a finger piece 59 protruding through an aperture in the bottom wall of the casing part 10 and includes a plate 61 slidably mounted in an internal recess between flanges 62 and carrying bridging strips 63, 64 which, for series-parallel connection, engage contacts, 65, 66 and 67, 68 respectively. For series connection only, the strip 64 is employed to engage contacts 54, 55 both contacts of the strip 63 engaging the conductor 48.
