Abstract

991,055. Winding and reeling wire. BARRON & CROWTHER Ltd. April 16, 1964 [May 2, 1963], No. 17381/63. Heading B3E. A wire coiling machine of the kind having a block in the form of a substantially cylindrical drum held stationary in use of the machine whilst wire is coiled around a wire feed end thereof by means of a distributer arm rotating about the block, the coils of wire passing off a coil delivery end of said block to coil storing means or some further treatment characterized by the provision of a worm conveyer co-operating with a roller which serve to retain the block from rotation, the conveyer serving also to engage the successive coils moving away from the delivery end of the block. Wire is laid by a rotated distributer arm 8 around a block 1 prevented from rotating by the engagement of a pair of rollers 16 carried by the block 1 with a worm-conveyer 18 rotatably mounted in brackets 20 on a table 21. Belt conveyers 22 on each side of the worm 18 carry the coils dropped from the block 1 away from the machine, the conveyer 18 being rotated at a speed such that the axial advance of its thread is the same as the speed of the belt conveyers 22. The table 21 may be turned about a shaft 31 to direct the conveyers to feed the wire coils to any one of a plurality of coil storing means. Clips 30 mounted around the block 1 prevent the coils slipping thereon and a plate 29 directs the coils to the worm-conveyer 18. In a modification, Fig. 4, the worm-conveyer 18 is mounted in the block 1 and driven by bevel gears 38 from a spindle 3 which rotates the distributer arm. Rollers 37 are carried by the table 21. In another modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), with rollers 16 mounted on the block 1, the worm conveyer, mounted on the table 21 extends below and beyond the diameter of the block 1, the belt conveyers 22 being dispensed with. In another embodiment, Fig. 8, a worm conveyer 44 is carried by the block 1 with its axis parallel to that of the block and is driven by a belt 47 from the spindle 3. A pair of rollers 45 mounted on a fixed support 46 co-operate with the worm conveyer 44. Alternatively the worm conveyer 44 may be mounted on the support 46 and the rollers 45 on the block 1. The coils may be directed on to a belt conveyer 51, an inclined plate or a vibration conveyer. A pulley at the end of the distributer arm 8 may be replaced or supplemented by a die through which the wire is arranged to pass before being coiled round the block 1.
