990,898. Clips. CONTINENTAL CAN CO. Inc. Oct. 4, 1963 [Oct. 8, 1962], No. 39179/63. Heading E2B. [Also in Division B8] A fastener 23 for securing a lid including a bead 20 and a downwardly directed rim 21 terminating in a reinforced peripheral edge 22 on a container such as a drum, comprises an end portion 25 provided with containerpenetrating tangs 34, 35, 36 adapted to be interlocked with the side wall 11 of the container, an intermediate portion 26 defining a flexible strip-hinge disposed between the end portion and a top lug portion 27, the latter being adapted to seat upon the bead 20 of the container lid 15. As shown the intermediate portion 26 is constituted by a slotted section 37 having integral rub strips at each side of the slot. In use each of a plurality of the fasteners may be attached to the drum by the tangs 34, 35, 36 and the lug portion 27 engaged with the lid of the container by means of a tool Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown) inserted through the slotted section 37 to engage the rim 21 above the peripheral edge 22.
