990,809. Mounting engines and gear units. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. March 18, 1964, No. 11386/64. Heading B7H. A motor vehicle power unit 1 is connected via a flexible coupling 3 to a drive shaft 5 which is connected by a universal joint 7 to a differential gear 11 from which swing axles 12 of an independent rear suspension are driven. The differential gear-case is connected to a carrier member 13 pivotally mounted transversely in the vehicle by means of rubber bushed pins 15. A " backbone " member 17, which surrounds the shaft 5, is connected to the carrier 13 and, by means of rubber bushes 23 carried by its upturned ends 21, to the vehicle. The engine has a transverse pivotal mounting at its front end and at its rear end, the unit 1 is connected by rubber mounts 25 to the backbone 17. Specification 963,087 is referred to.
